The Lakemba Mosque (arabic: masjid) is known officially as Masjid Ali ibn Abi Talib, who was a prominent companion or apostle of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as well as being his Cousin and son-in-law.
Lakemba Mosque was built between 1972 and 1977 by the Lebanese Muslim Association. Lakemba Mosque was the first purpose-built mosque in Sydney, although earlier buildings had been converted into mosques.
Today, Lakemba Mosque remains one of the largest mosques in Australia and is located at 71-75 Wangee Road, Lakemba NSW 2195.
