The Metal Museum’s Permanent Collection is one of the ways we embody our mission to preserve, promote, and advance the art and craft of fine metalwork. This collection of over 3,000 objects focuses on American artists and artworks from the post-Craft Revival period in the 1970s to present and includes hollowware, sculpture, studio jewelry, and functional work. Historic pieces in our collection date back to the Renaissance and help tell the story of the Craft-Revival by documenting the progress and decline of the field prior to the Revival. Works by international artists contextualize influences on contemporary American metalsmiths. The Visible Storage Gallery has high density storage units with glass cabinet tops and glass covered drawers. Using visible storage allows the Metal Museum to maximize public access to nearly 300 works in our collection that otherwise would be hidden from view.
