Timber production in England’s forests

Wood is a beautiful, functional and renewable material used in our homes, schools and workplaces. When trees are cut down to provide the wood we need the most important part of the forest cycle is that more trees are planted in their place.

Around one-fifth of England’s forests are cared for by Forestry England, equating to over 250 000 hectares of forest, almost the same size as 350,000 football pitches. From this land, about 1.4 million tonnes of wood are sustainably harvested each year.
