German artist Edward Beyer arrived in America in 1848. He stayed for nearly ten years, drawing and painting as he traveled, and returned to Germany with his drawings in 1857. Before leaving the states, he took subscriptions for his planned “Album of Virginia” which was to consist of drawings made into lithographs and published as an oversized, leather-bound book. These lithographs have been expertly and lovingly conserved at Maria Pukownik’s studio, MP Fine Art and Paper Conservation and are on display at the Greenbrier Historical Society.
