Selected woodturners from throughout Maryland join artistic forces with local Frederick artists for an exhibition of handcrafted woodturning presented alongside tree-inspired paintings, carvings, and photographs.
As chartered clubs of the national-level American Association of Woodturners, the three clubs have a committed association with each other to bring handcrafted turned wood art to the attention of the public. We have and will continue to take “public education,” as stated in our mission statements, seriously. We have coordinated together for three exhibitions with the Delaplaine making for a fourth exhibition. In 2018, and again in 2020, we participated in the successful “Handcrafted Fiber Art and Turned Wood Exhibitions” at the BlackRock Center of the Arts in Germantown, MD. Both exhibitions were a huge success for BlackRock. BlackRock now invites us back on an alternating year schedule.
Additionally, in 2019 the three clubs hosted the “Vessels from Our Trees” exhibition in the Popcorn Gallery at Glenn Echo Park in Glen Echo, MD. Another well-received and successful event.
The involved artists have also exhibited their works at various galleries in the local area, including the Delaplaine Art Center, NOMA Gallery, FCC’s Mary Condon Hodgson Art Gallery, and The Cooley Gallery.
