While Trenton’s West Ward is full of rich cultural assets and history, many are under-recognized and under-supported. This virtual tour of seven locations inside the Trenton Historic Development Collaborative (THDC) Neighborhood is intended to celebrate a cluster of cultural assets in a node called the Belvidere Area, namely Passaic St, Belvidere St, Reverend S. Howard Woodson Jr Way (formally Calhoun St.), and Bellevue Ave.
The tour focuses on the people, places, and stories that make this node in THDC special. It includes historic buildings and stories of people who once lived here, in addition to the plans in place to preserve those assets by local organizations and the City of Trenton. Audio recordings included in this tour are from residents who participated in a senior resident reunion at the Carver Center in 2014.
A local historian, Shiloh Baptist Church, and Isles have collaborated to research and design this tour. For more information on this project, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Audio recordings made in partnership with StoryCorps.
This project is funded by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities and the NJ Department of Community Affairs' Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program.
