Alexandra Palace Theatre in North London “re-awoke” in 2018 after an 80 year slumber. The ‘transformation scene’ of this once famous home of pantomime is more than just a Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella fairytale, it is an epic battle with the elements, the winds of change and the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune!
The architect’s vision of ‘arrested decay’ and the Charitable Trust’s long term aspirations for the Theatre, aided by visionary funders but within a constrained budget, were achieved with bucket loads of patience, perseverance and compromise.
Here, in our virtual gallery is a behind the scenes glimpse of some of the horror and fragile glory that most visitors won’t even get to see when we reopen the venue.
